The client
Dropout Chaiwala is an Indian chai café brand with its store in Melbourne's CBD. Chai cafés sell a lot more than a drink. They sell a feeling of home for people who grew up with it, and something new for people who didn't. That makes the brand very visual and very shareable, which is why social media and creators were the right channels.
The challenge
Dropout Chaiwala had the harder version of that problem. Two locations, a Melbourne store and a food truck in Harris Park in Sydney, plus a premix chai sold online. Nothing about that footprint tells a prospective franchisee the brand travels. The enquiries had to come from people who had never stood in either store.
Most café marketing aims at one thing: getting people through the door this week. Franchise marketing has a different audience. It reaches people who want to own a store, and they're watching for proof that the brand has pull. Queues, comments, creator content and press all act as evidence. A single channel can do both jobs if the content is strong enough.
What we did
Inflo Media ran Dropout Chaiwala's social media and influencer marketing, aimed at franchise enquiries rather than foot traffic.
- Social media management end to end: the content calendar, the shoots, and the day-to-day posting across the brand's accounts, with the mix weighted towards the signals a prospective franchisee reads, which is queues, repeat customers and the product travelling beyond its own store.
- Creator partnerships, run as campaigns rather than one-off posts. Creators vetted on audience location and engagement quality rather than follower count, briefed on a specific hook, contracted with usage rights agreed up front, and sequenced: store-visit content first to show the brand in real life, then product-led content for the premix with tracked links so the response is measurable.
- AI search visibility work on the brand entity, so that when someone asks ChatGPT or Gemini about chai franchises in Australia, the brand is one of the handful of names that comes back.
The result
$2.4M in franchise opportunities, with enquiries from across Australia.
Why social media can show up in AI answers
People don't usually connect Instagram posts with ChatGPT recommendations, but the two are linked. When AI tools answer "where's the best chai in Melbourne?", they look for a business that lots of independent sources talk about. Creator videos, food blogs, press coverage, review sites and social mentions all count. An influencer campaign that gets people talking about a café creates exactly those mentions.
That's the angle most café owners miss. A creator campaign does more than reach followers. Every mention gives AI tools another independent source naming your business.
What this result does and doesn't mean
Franchise opportunities are enquiries with a value attached. They are not signed franchise agreements, and not every enquiry becomes one.
A strong brand also did a lot of the work here. Social media made more people see it. It didn't create the product, the name or the store experience that people wanted to share.
What other cafés and hospitality brands can take from this
- Pick creators your customers already follow. A good fit between the creator's audience and your product beats a big follower count.
- Make the store worth filming. Signature drinks, a recognisable cup, a counter people want in the background. Creators come back to places that look good on camera.
- Have a place to send franchise interest. If the attention arrives and there's no franchise page or enquiry form, the opportunities leak away in DMs.
- Check what ChatGPT says about your category. Ask it for the best [your product] in your suburb, monthly. If you're not named, look at who is and where they're being mentioned.
